The Cheat "Inspired by the noir sounding suits of Interpol, the quartet's music is indie rock of the dark and cerebral kind."
    --Elisa Jacobs (SF Bay Guardian)

The Cheat formed after Sam Alexander saw Jesse Nolan and Stephen Edelstein playing in a sandbox. He asked if he could play along. "Sure," said Jesse, "but only if you play guitar in our band". After much deliberation, Sam acquiesced, and Keith Patterson was quickly roped in after the trio stole his milk money.

After this, The Cheat began frequenting five-and-dime stores, but could only afford to windowshop.

One time, The Cheat went to a party full of naked people and played rock music while they wrestled in chocolate pudding.
True story.

Sam will only drink certain types of bottled water. Other types, he claims, are evil.

Most members of The Cheat do not know where they are right now. Some do not know their own names or how to play their instruments.

People sometimes come up to members of The Cheat and ask them questions about the nature of humanity and love. The answers they receive are generally not satisfying. Sometimes Steve is insightful, but usually he isn't.

The Cheat plays dark, kinetic rock and roll. Their influences range from the Beatles to the Talking Heads to Radiohead, but they have managed to craft an entirely unique sound; a new voice in the rock world.
